CAGCR Writer-in-Residence (spring 2026) Dr Mithu Sanyal

The Centre for Anglo-German Cultural Relations (CAGCR) at QMUL, housed in the Department of Modern Languages and Comparative Literature (MLCL), welcomes a Writer in Residence at least once a year. This semester’s Writer in Residence, Dr Mithu Sanyal, will be joining us for 10 weeks from 9 February.

The project is entitled "Health Inequalities: Towards a Reparative Glossary" and we will be holding several events over 2026.
Dr Falco Pfalzgraf’s 8th book has just been published

The hardcover edition of Dr Falco Pfalzgraf’s edited volume "Gender-Inclusive Language: Findings from 14 Languages and Open Research Questions" was published on Monday 26th January 2026 by De Gruyter. It is Volume 47 in the series "Trends in Applied Linguistics (TAL)" and Falco’s 8th book.

Professor Jacqueline Hurtley gives the 2025 Joanot Martorell Lecture at the Centre for Catalan Studies

Professor Jacqueline Hurtley of the University if Barcelona is an expert on Catalan publishing and the biographer of Walter Starkie. Her lecture “Translation or transcreation? English-language authors, Catalan translators and publishers, 1920–1938” covered writers such as George Eliot and Joseph Conrad. There were cases of adaptation, as to be expected, but also almost moral censorship transforming texts into the opposite of their meaning.

All costs were kindly covered by the Language Council of Saarland.
